COVID-19 is everywhere. With this corona virus holding our society in its grip, it is easy to have a passive attitude. But in challenging times like these, a proactive approach – based on expert advice – can really make a difference. To resist COVID-19, maintaining good general health is crucial. You can be of influence by making sure you choose beneficial vitamins and nutrients. Which types of food promote good health?

Listen to expert advice: eat your five-a-day

Based on the advice of the World Health Organisation (WHO) to eat a minimum of 400 grams of fruit and vegetables a day, the British government launched its five-a-day campaign in 2003. This guideline persuades consumers to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day. The portions measure 80 grams each, equivalent to two to three tablespoons of vegetables, a bowl of mixed salad, ten radishes, a medium apple, half a grapefruit a banana or a handful of grapes. In addition, make sure your diet also consists of wholemeal products, a variation in meat, fish and pulses, unsalted nuts and skimmed or semi-skimmed dairy products. And do not forget drink at least two litres of fluids, like water, tea or coffee.

A healthy diet, sufficient exercise and rest

When you follow the above-mentioned advice, there is no need to take extra vitamin supplements. Sometimes, this can even be harmful when high doses of certain vitamins are stored in the body. Next to a healthy diet, sufficient exercise and rest are also important, even when you are stuck at home. To stay active inside, there are plenty of options to be found via online channels.

Solidarity through continuously supporting consumers

Challenging times ask for more solidarity. As the fruit and vegetable sector, it remains important to provide healthy products to consumers. You can also share the advice of experts like the WHO, to continuously support consumers in making the right decisions. When we focus on resisting COVID-19 together, our chances increase of getting through this period as healthy as possible.
